Empty Group Forums Deleted

October 8, 2011 in News

Work is beginning on updating bbPress 2.1 to better integrate with BuddyPress groups. To best do this, I’ve deleted all forums with no topics or posts here at testbp.org. If you are the admin of a group, you are still free to enable the group forum functionality if you’d like.

Forum Shortcode as Comments

August 18, 2011 in Uncategorized

In this blog post I am using the bbPress 2.0 shortcode to replace the comments with a forum topic that I’ve created instead.

If all goes well, you’ll be able to see a specific topic inside of this blog post, and even reply to it too! If you reply from here, you’ll be redirected back here as well.

Neat!

Trying out the bbPress plugin

May 3, 2011 in News

There’s a new version of bbPress currently in development, and it’s almost ready for prime time. It’s so close that we couldn’t help but give it a trial run here at testbp.org. As a general reminder, we use this site to test how things are working together, so don’t post anything important in these new forums that you’ll want to keep forever. We’ll be slowly integrating the new version of bbPress with the new version of BuddyPress, and you can watch it happen here. :)

Check out http://testbp.org/discussion/ to try it out!

Trying out Jetpack

March 20, 2011 in News

We’ve received some feedback about compatibility issues between BuddyPress and Jetpack, so I’ve installed Jetpack here to test it out and see how it works. Happy to report all systems go! If you are experiencing issues getting Jetpack to connect to WordPress.com, drop a comment here or contact me directly so we can troubleshoot together. :)

Updated to WordPress 3.1 r17434

February 10, 2011 in News

Updated to tonight’s most recent build of WordPress 3.1, and once again happy to report no issues.

I’ve also deactivated the Amazon S3 avatar storage plugin we were testing here. If you previously uploaded an avatar, you’re going to want to switch to using your Gravatar going forward.

In a twist, I’ve updated testbp.org to use the most recent version of BuddyPress trunk too. Things may be a little wonky while we work out some kinks, but this site is for you to test as well as us! :)

Updated to WordPress 3.1 r17330

January 22, 2011 in News

After a few days of downtime, testbp.org is back up and running on WordPress 3.1 trunk. We’re still using our 1.2.7 branch of code here for now while we begin our descent towards BuddyPress 1.3. At the time of this writing the update from WordPress 3.0 to 3.1 worked without any problems.

Updated to 1.2.6 RC1

October 7, 2010 in News

Just updated the site to what I’m hoping is the only 1.2.6 release candidate. It’s the most stable and up-to-date version of BuddyPress available. Please report any issues over at the BuddyPress development tracker.

If all goes well for the next few days, BuddyPress 1.2.6 will be out in the wild soon!

Testing Secondary Avatars

August 9, 2010 in News

Submitted for 1.2.6, this website is now testing the secondary activity feed avatars. On this site this mainly means ‘Groups’ since we aren’t using multisite and have the ‘Friends’ component disabled.

Also, some of the deprecated style activity feed items are currently showing mixed styling and results. The format changed a little over a year ago, and there is still a bit of testing to be done to ensure 100% compatibility.

Please report any issues here if you see any!

Tumbleweeds, Crickets, and PM only Followers

July 13, 2010 in News

If you thought things were slow over at BuddyPress.org, then chances are you’re sick of the tumbleweeds and crickets around this place.

In an effort to spruce things up, I’ve updated the sites plugins to their most current versions (including BuddyPress), installed W3 Total Cache to help speed things up, and we’re testing @r-a-y’s Private Messages for Followers Only plugin, for possible future adoption over on BuddyPress.org to bring back private discussions but prevent solicitations from spam users.

Remember folks, this site is the official test bed for the BuddyPress project. It’s purpose is to be the real world testing ground for plugins that are possible candidates for BuddyPress core, and to test how BuddyPress reacts in large user base and high-activity situations. As such, this site can find itself in a general state of disarray on occasion, but that’s usually a good thing. We recently hit the 20,000 member mark, which makes it a great sized network to test things on.

Once active development starts on BuddyPress 1.3, I’ll be updating this site more frequently with updates from the trunk so we can be sure to get as much mileage out of this site as possible.
